An amazing season comes to end…
The ECHS girl's basketball team had an amazing run in the 2022-2023 season. Many might look at the record posted this year and think otherwise but when you take a closer look, the details tell the story.
We played mostly upper-division schools and finished second in the league losing only to a team who is two divisions higher in CIF play. We then finished league play winning the first-ever Coastal Conference Pacific League tournament. Coming into the season I did not know what type of a team we would have as this was my first year coaching the team. I soon realized we had an opportunity to make a run deep into the playoffs.
After finishing 12-0 against divisional teams, going deep into the playoffs is exactly what we did. Losing in the quarterfinal playoff game to #1 Palo Verde High school in their hometown by only 6 was a massive win for our team. Those that drove the four hours to be a part of the playoffs, THANK YOU! Palo Verde High went on to win the San Diego Section CIF Division 4 Championship.
We had three players honored by our league this season. Samantha Mowrey was named Player of the Year and a part of the first-team all-league. Noelle Champagne was named second-team all-league and Chelsea Amador received an honorable mention.
Ultimately our record does not tell the story of how amazing this season truly was. The team grew, bonded, celebrated, and became stronger in every area of their life over the last couple of months. After every practice and game, we would gather put our hands together and say, “White Tigers on 3, family on 6” and I would say a family is exactly what we have become.
Until Next Season White Tigers… Work hard, stay humble, and keep grinding.
Family Always,
Coach Ben Brinkman
