UPDATE 4/11: Friday 4/12 practice will be at ECHS 6PM. Roster for this Saturday has been added (link below)
Hello ECHS Players and Families,
We look forward to putting all of our training into our League Meet #4 tomorrow! As we mentioned at practices, this meet will be held at ESCONDIDO HIGH SCHOOL due to the ongoing construction at OGHS. Early Release of 2:30PM. Be at EHS by 3PM sharp.
ADDITIONALLY: Congratulations to those who made it into the Jim Cerveny Invitational this Saturday, April 13th. Invitationals this season have been VERY competitive and hard to get into. Let's continue to work hard and have representation at these events. We have a total of 13 events that made it in (10 girl events, 3 boy events). ALL ATHLETES ARRIVE BY 8AM AT THE LATEST. COME OUT AND SUPPORT YOUR TEAM!
WISE WORDS FROM COACH FAVELA:
Tips for mentally preparing for a meet: Being in shape is key, but a big component is also being mentally prepared. A tool that can help is visualization, it helps you shape and understand how your event will unfold and how you want it to unfold for yourself.
- - The night before take time to find some quiet space and time. Close your eyes, relax your body, relax your breathing and focus on visualizing each of your events. Visualize each of your events, what is your strategy; envision how your body is going to feel (stressed) and that its okay; visualize heavy but relaxed breathing; visualize that you are in shape, confident, that race strain and pain is a positive aspect not a negative aspect, accept it, embrace it, and that you can and will work and push thru it; visualize that you are finishing strong with good form; visualize that you gave it everything you had and that is success in itself (more than the time); visualize that you feel good about your event you just completed. That said each event is somewhat dynamic and not the same, be ready to react if you get tripped, if you get boxed in. Motivate and think positively to not waste each opportunity, be ready to match moves, leave everything you have on the track, that you did all you could and have no regrets and what if’s afterwards!
- - DON’T ALLOW NEGATIVE THOUGHTS CREEP IN, THROW THEM OUT: "I feel tired", "...the other runners are really fast", "I am out of shape", "I don’t have any energy, they are so much better", "...why am I doing this", "...this really hurts and I want to stop", "I can't go any faster".
- On Race Day: Visualize the same thoughts and process in a space of your own at the meet prior to your event. Practice visualization as a tool for success not only in sports but also in life (academics, tests, speeches, challenging events and activities, etc.)
